Weed & Pest Control

Grassy Weeds

Crabgrass seeds may lie dormant in your lawn’s soil just waiting for the right conditions to start popping up and taking over any unclaimed space. Since crabgrass requires sunlight, one simple way of controlling it is to maintain thick, healthy grass that blocks the sun from reaching the soil. But if the best efforts to control weeds by natural methods fails, herbicides can be applied to keep them in check. Pre-emergent herbicide is a product that controls germinating grass seedlings.

Broadleaf Weeds

Broadleaf weeds are plants that grow two or more leaves that contain a visible network of veins and may produce flowers at maturity. Some examples are dandelions and clover. While they may be considered beautiful by some, and even a food source for wildlife, some homeowners consider broadleaf weeds to be an unwelcome addition to their lawn. For homeowners who want to eliminate them from the landscape, post emergence herbicides can be applied.

Pests

Japanese Beetles and Grubs

In early summer, Japanese beetles emerge from the ground to search for food and to mate. The adult beetles feed on many types of plants, but unfortunately one of their favorite foods is rose bushes, and they can do a lot of damage to roses. In mid-summer, the females lay eggs in the soil. A few weeks later, the eggs hatch, and the next generation emerges in the form of grubs, the immature, larvae stage of the insect. The grubs live in the soil, eating grass roots during late summer. You may not be aware that grubs are present under the ground until you see the damage that they have caused from the surface. If your lawn shows signs of grubs, a pesticide can be applied to minimize the damage to your lawn.
